About Us

Welcome to Star Ranch

Nestled in the Cross-Timber region in the north end of Texas' famous Hill Country lies this 75 acre working registered longhorn ranch. Karen and Jim Reisman purchased this beautiful property in 2008. Situated 100 miles west of Dallas, TX, this ranch resides in Erath County just north of Stephenville and south of Possum Kingdom Lake. The abundant wildlife includes deer, wild turkey, raccoons, possums, fox, bobcats, pigs, coyotes, ducks, armadillos and doves.

The ranch house sits on the site of the original Russell homestead. A barn and stable dating back to the Civil War still stands. The Russell's small family cemetery is also located on this property.

About the Owners

Jim Reisman, D.D.S.

A native Texan who grew up in Dallas and attended the University of Texas, Dr. Reisman has always loved the outdoors. He's been a well known dentist in Dallas for many years and his patients enjoy hearing about the ranch and his travels around the world.

He's an avid hunter, fisherman, and car enthusiast. Jim is married to Karen for over 30 years and they have two children, Courtney and Brett.

Karen Cortell Reisman, M.S.

Finally when Karen and Jim's kids went off to college Karen thought life in Dallas would just get calmer. Two days later Jim declared, "Karen, I want to realize my dream of owning a ranch." Karen thought he was kidding in spite of his hankerings over the years whenever he drove through the rolling hills of Texas. Karen, a proud urbanite, resisted this idea until she and Jim drove up to Star Ranch. It was love at first sight.

A reformed urban girl, Karen admits, "The ranch is the best thing I never wanted." Besides enjoying a slower-paced life while gazing out at the longhorns and chickens, she also works with clients, in person or by zoom, while at the ranch. It's also a great setting for company retreats. Karen runs a business called Speak For Yourself®. She works with leaders on how they speak for themselves to make even more money.
